The Giant is growning.

Post by noverflow »

So we are now really close to outgrowing the hosting plan I am on.

What does this mean?
The site in the next month or so will start costing about $20/mo.

So, as much as I love this site... im not a rich man, and my money is actually Illyana's money.

So if you love the site, and can afford it, please donate to the giant.
Wiki page on how to do it. If you cant, its ok. And It does not have to now. It will be around for awhile.

[wiki]Donate[/wiki]

If you donate through A Small Orange (the hosting company), the money goes directly to them, and never touches my hands.

Thanks in advance,
-Adam

If you think I am personally doing a good job, and just want to send me money... Im ok with that. :D

PS
Please dont ask me to just change hosting companies. I have tried MANY. and none are even close.
I really hate PMs. Please just email me.

Change hosting company :P

Seriously though, if you ever feel like your hosting is just not up to it, MediaTemple are considered the best host out there, and they have just released a scalable grid hosting platform. They also have a sexy website!

I had them. Would never go back. Their sql commands are limited to 5mb. And they fail at 5mb at that. ASmallorange works with 50mb ones. Needed incase of failure.

Also, they oversell their servers. There is no way they could transfer 1tb of bandwidth for $10.

With ASO, I know that I am allowed to actually use what I pay for.

less then 5% would do it

add a DONATE link at the top to the right of Prints

contact me via PM to discuss some ways to make a lil better use of some not-so-in-your-face ads to generate some income as well.

Not sure what you mean here? Their database sizes are 5Mb or their is a limit to the actual query of 5Mb? If you are pulling 5 megabytes worth of data out of a database, you are doing something wrong!

query.
It is an input of over 5mb.

I need it so I easily restore the site if It gets messed up.

The wiki is over 12mb now. (data alone)

Also, when I had them, their software was not new enough for the wiki. PHP 5

Id love to have a print for the site... but im not sure if we could actually get that done.

And proceeds? I only need like 200 a year to keep the site going.

Maybe a limited run of 8? LOL!!!

My bro looked into having a print commissioned for me for being his best man. The price was $3000 about 4 years ago.

Right, so you'd need to sell the prints at $40 - $50 a piece to make any real cash out of it.

That's assuming you get both the design work and the print work done for the price above.
