Opening Soon: Thegiant.org GALLERY

Post by mose »

Okay, new project time and this will be a fun one.

The print database, the very reason this website was started, is now over 560 entries. This labor of love has turned in to the greatest resource available for any artist in this genre. It is a stunning testament to the love and dedication of Shepard's fans.

It is now time to turn the bulk of our attention to a long-neglected aspect of Shepard's work - the fine art/gallery pieces. We are working on the templates needed in order to re-open the Gallery section of the wiki, which we want to develop in order to serve as a sort-of 'catalogue raisonne' of the fine art peices.

We know many of you have fantastic Fairey originals in your collection. We respectfully ask that you PM the following to thegiant.org username: gallery submissions

1. a direct link to the highest-quality picture you can take or find
2. Name
3. Year
4. description(mixed media on canvas, silkscreen on metal, etc.)
5. edition size(if known)
6. size of the piece
7. provenance(if known, show purchased at, commission, etc.)
8. any additionl information you have(in sentence form)

I'm with you Mose, I totally missed the gallery section.

I hope you get enough interest from the members to put it together

Please note that we are able to accept up to four photos of your fine art piece, preferably one head-on, full-view "money shot" of it (mandatory) and an additional three images used to illustrate the close-up details, the piece's scale, its original gallery hanging, etc.

Here's the progress so far: http://thegiant.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Fine_Art

Once I get it to around 500 we'll turn the gallery link on...

This is looking really good! I also stumbled upon some of the told gallery shows in the wiki. Assume we'll be adding the pieces from those (e.g. the last White Wall show, past MK Gallery, Denmark show, etc)?

Looks awesome man!

I think it would be interesting to see the prices for them if we know. Is this possible?

I would say, "no."

Some of the gallery list prices might be known but anyone who's dealt with galleries knows their prices are usually "strong suggestions" and might not have been the final selling price (particularly a few years ago before Shepard's shows were instant-instant sell-outs). Some gallery lists are probably still around, but I would think price lists over two or three years old are going to be hard to come by. Then there are the commissions to take into consideration: good luck getting the prices on those.

Feel free to start the legwork on tracking all of it down, though. Maybe if you compile a good data set that includes a majority of the pieces' prices we can reevaluate.

Yeah, original prices are iffy. I do have a few price lists, and a few standards are well known(metals = $500 was the going rate for some time)....

First priority is getting as many entries as possible in, then we'll start sweeping through to add extra info. when we get it....

There used to be a smoking hot girly next to the piece, but now she's gone.
