"This machine kills fascists" + "War for sale" new info

Post by adrianlopez »

Hello! Newbie here!

I was reading about the prints I own and foud out in the gallery that the man appearing in the "This machine kills fascists" print is referred to as "nobody specific; but rather an archetype of the musician/rebel/folk lyricist, etc."
Wrong, the man portrayed in this print is not anybodyr, nor cames from the imagination of Mr Fairey.
He's Denny Laine (from The Moody Blues and later The Wings fame)
The picture that inspired the design can be found on the book "Then, now and rare British Beat 1960-1969" by Terry Rawlings, page 116.

Here's another picture from the same session by Peter Webb from 1967:

In the same book I forementioned you can spot the picture that "inspired" another great print from Shepard, the "Next time there's a war for sale, it's alright to say no thank you"
The woman is Billie Davis (p. 57)
A pic of her from that era:

TMK's stock just went up in my book. Always liked the image, and like it even more now.

This is one of the prints that I was always iffy about until I bought on for my girlfriend. It is much nicer in person. The maroonish color does not show well in pics either.

Is it fair to Credit these source pictures now?

Jason may say the person in the image is no one specific but i still believe he was and needs crediting.
