Virus Threat Detected

Post by Bonesy »

A few times over the past week my virus blocked has gone off when trying to enter the forum. My blocked isn't ultrasensitive or anything either. Any ideas? Anyone else?

i don't think it has anything to do with the forum but everything to do with the ads that are displayed on the forum. a lot of malware is now being spread by bogus ads that display popups to try and trick you into installing the virus/malware/trojans/etc. i know of at least two bogus malwares that have been doing this lately, one that tries to make you think you are installing an update to flash and another that makes you think you have a virus so you pay for their bogus antivirus software. i'm sure there are more but i'm on a mac and use an ad blocker plugin

your best protection is to use an ad blocker plugin. i know blocking ads hurts publishers/websites but if they don't care enough to make sure they aren't running bogus ads then i don't care if they don't make any money.

If there are malicious adds on the site wouldn't it make sense to get rid of them?

the ads are being feed from google. if there are malicious ads then it's google's responsibility to run quality control but they don't seem to care as long as they make money.

I have not had it on this site yet but I got this issue form the banksy board today.
random message board post about art wrote: This past weekend I briefly visited a room that had three faithful reproductions of Duchamp's Fountain. Not only did I notice, I used one of them. It's so interesting because the work tells the truth.

Do you know what thread you were on when that came up?

People are saying it is probably an image from the site.
