Michael's Fuct my Frame Job and my print

Post by ChapPKP »

I just took a print out of a Michael's Custom Frame job, only to find that the a$$hole that framed my piece decided that it would be a brilliant idea to cut the deckled edges off the top and bottom of the print...very very annoyed!!!!!

Get a refund plus compensation, you could take em to small claims.

Thats really bad

Awful. What print was it?

Someone once posted that they heard deckled edges were supposed to be cut off though I would never recommend that.

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7317&p=223070&hilit=+I+was+told+the+reason+#p223070

You should get them to pay for or replace the print.

There are also tools to re-deckle edges should you be inclined to try and salvage the print but you are probably better off just leaving it.

Trimming anything (art, photos, diplomas, etc.) without your permission is just irresponsible. Talk to the store manager ... you have to be able to get a refund, and maybe compensation for the print itself.

Some lady working at a professional framing store spend 15 minutes trying to convince me that hacking off the deckled edges of my D*Face Pop Tart was necessary for framing and wouldn't hurt value ... the owner of the store finally came over and nearly had a stroke when he heard what she was saying.

Most people working at frame stores are just people working a job. I refuse to give anything to a store now unless I know the person writing and/or completing the order has serious experience.

Spend some money if you are going to frame something. It is generally worth it.

Become friends with your local framer.
And also mount your prints with mylar edges/ corners, or Japanese rice paper hinges (for floating). Michael's probably dosent have either of these.

I haven't had anything framed at Michael's in 2+ years and have been using a framer I trust. I only got 4 things framed there when I started collecting. Unfortunately they are 4 of my prints that are worth the most. I am probably going to take the other two apart today.

yup... it's like a fast food frame shop = it may be cheap but they skip out on the quality. you get what you pay for. i would never in a million years have them frame anything of value let alone my most valuable prints.

Get compensation. They had no right. Take them to small claims court.

Trust me, doooo it.

PFFFT, cutting off deckled edges.

I really hope that your Black on Black remains in good shape. It is such a sweet print!

Also I don't think you would get very far in small claims court. You could write a long letter to customer relations documenting your entire experience. If you can manage to say the right things and get through to the right person they may offer you a reasonable amount for compensation. The latter however is fairly difficult but persistance can pay off.

I wrote the CEO of dell for a refund on my comp, and I got one.

Maybe you can try the same thing with Micheals.

probably because the framing dept inside of michael's is not run by michaels, it's a separate company.... or at least that's how it used to be there and that's how it is at other places like AC Moore.

did they say why? i wonder if the reason is that it has been so long since you got them framed that there really is no way for you to prove that michael's did the damage. not that i am okay with the outcome, but i am just thinking of reasons why they might give you that unfortunate response.
i'm proud to be the shepherd of this herd of sharks.
