Of course they were, I haven't idea why anyone, on this board at least, would think any different. Did you look at those hideous colorways? This guy is an artist himself who specializes in this method. Shepard sent him some art for a sample, didn't like how it came out and instead of that being the end of it, this guys turns around and makes tons more to sell and make a ton or money off of. Just because Shepard sent him the artwork does not make them authorized and they certainly are not authentic. Could you imagine the sh1t storm that would happen if modern multiples decided to mass produce the large format art Shepard sends them and then resells the work under Shep's name? Yet for some unknown reason people are giving this fool a pass because they "really like the image"

This incident gets the face palm of the year award.

BUT - one would think that there would be 'official' word by now - and there's not. That alone is suspect and makes me believe this situation is not as cut and dry as you guys would like it to be.

We were aware of this Thursday AM. Obey was probably aware of it later that day. Responsible attorneys don't do instantaneous turnaround on paperwork; they'd have to locate and review the contract (if any), have a conversation with the client (who's out of the country), perhaps review recent caselaw depending on the fact pattern, and try to settle it with the vendor before going further. If a C&D or TRO is in the works, we should know soon.

Looks like there are a lot of eleven foot poles in circulation because, Lord knows, 99% of people familiar with Shepard's work wouldn't have touched these with a ten foot one.

I look at this piece the same way I look at my "Old Obey" print. Its unauthorized, Shepard had them printed and didn't like them. But, still cool, imo.
NOT looking at this as a fine art piece. Anyone doing that is reaching, quite a bit.

True that, I wrote them off immediately, surprised at the reaction to these

No, but I'll move it to Giant v. Giant, which is accessible without registration, as a warning. (Alongside the other threads that dealt with people's experiences buying bootlegs and forgeries from backdoor impresarios.)
