Dave Kinsey
Re: Dave Kinsey
Picked up Presidio, nice little print.
Re: Dave Kinsey
I was at my framer, Dan Tag of Flying Pig Picture Frames, to get my ESPO OG done. While I was there I found this amazing antique frame that worked perfectly on my Dave Kinsey OG on chip board. Dan told me that on ebay this frame could fetch up to $200 due to its age, condition, and size. He was lucky enough to grab it at a yard sale for $25 so I got it out the door with glass and matting for $85. Dan is the man!

Huge fan of his work. Remind me of Adam Neate a bit.

Re: Dave Kinsey
This guy really pushes his art. I am very impressed with Kinsey and the variety of his work over the years. All so different. All so Kinsey.
Re: Dave Kinsey
very true!.. and I dont think a lot of artists manage to keep it that way.. definitely something Dave should be proud of!djsp wrote:All so different. All so Kinsey.

Re: Dave Kinsey
Guess I'm not so quick on the draw anymore.
Obviously, I've been absent for a good while (other endeavors), but as I page through this thread, I realize I've missed a lot of work lately. The comments above about 'so different, so Kinsey' are interesting. His style is very recognizable, but I'm still waiting for his GREAT work. Yes, I have a lot of his prints and an OG, but as I look at his body of work, it seems as an artist he is still trying to find his thing. His character portraits are pretty amazing, but I'd like to see them go further. ala Three Monkeys. That said, I wish I'd bought 'Straight, No Chaser' when I had the chance (that goes for a lot of art, period - lol).

Such as? I think Kinsey has a lot of great work. Just interested in what you are looking to see in the future.MunkeyPants wrote:The comments above about 'so different, so Kinsey' are interesting. His style is very recognizable, but I'm still waiting for his GREAT work.

Re: Dave Kinsey
Perhaps I'm just missing the statement he's trying to make with his work. I'm not saying I don't get it, as there are plenty of successful artists out there whose work I really don't get. Kinsey has an incredible talent, part of what I'm saying is his best work is still to come (several others conclude he's mixing the old and new elements of his work with success). Maybe I just need to spend more time looking at his work and dissecting it. Was it Mose who said for every hour you spend buying art, you should spend 10 reading about it (or studying it?)? I never studied art history while I was in school, I was too busy making art and design and avoided those courses like the plague. I regret that now, but I still have room to grow.
Submit. Rapture.
Re: Dave Kinsey
I think a Kinsey/Neate collab show would be pretty spectacular. It just might be the little push Dave needs to continue to further develop his 'style'.

Re: Dave Kinsey
Totally fair man. I was just wondering where you wanted to see him go out of interest nothing more just to clarify.
Honestly there are so many people around here that know more about the academic side of art than I do, that it is always interesting to get other takes on artists that I enjoy.
