AG/OK Soda question....

Post by HolyShep »

Does anyone own one or has seen one of these in person? What type of paper is it on? Thick/thin matte/glossy? Maybe any of you who went to the ICA show? :?

I nabbed the other one, it was too good of a price to pass up, even if it turns out to be a copy....worth the gamble for a super rare piece of obey history.

So where can I find official info about the AG prints. The recent ebay seller of these also says he has some non-glossy ones as well. I'd like to know more about these prints.

Seller is starting to sound a little squirrelly (no offense cybernigel), I'd tread carefully...

That's exactly what I was thinking! I thought it's worth rolling the dice @ a not so rediculous price :) Also, if it turns out to be a copy, the seller listed it as "original" which would possibly give me grounds to file a claim. Though I would probably need to provide proof that it was a repro, which would be kinda difficult.

They had info. on E beans. I had to search Shepard Fairey by year and looked under 1994. When I was searching, there was no sales history, but it's been updated in the last couple days.

Seller sold two "textured" versions to the same buyer. I wish the seller gave more detailed descripitions. I'm not exactly sure what they mean by "textured".

I'm guessing that by "textured" he means non-glossy.

The seller of these is acting real shady. I made a deal for one "off eBay". Once I started asking is they were fakes and where he got them from, all if a sudden our deal was no longer. Buyers beware!

He told me he got them from a poster shop in Seattle. Well, at least the glossy ones, of which I bought one.

This to me tells me they are fakes. This postershop probably printed them up. Plus the way he was demanding immediate payment is also very fishy. To those who bought from this seller, good luck!

Well, since Rotten bought the second one and lives in LA, maybe he can somehow manage to get Shepard's opinion. I know it's a stretch, but that's probably the only way to know for sure.

sorry i am late in posting this. i have some info on the AG/OK soda print, from helen stickler, but i have been too busy to update the wiki just yet. here's what she sent over:

"Shep made 2 versions of the poster, the one you have in the article (with gray underlay) and the one I have - both with Andre's face and the Dan Clowes character rip. [note: helen's print has an all-white background)

[this is from a subsequent email:] So, the AG Soda / OK Soda is not signed or numbered. It was silkscreened of course, but intended as direct street art - most were put on light boxes and it was sized to fit right into subway boxes (which back in the old days weren't locked). It would be in a category of "paster" probably, if you had that category ..."
