Gallery Pricing Question

Post by highbrow »

Just curious . I contacted Guy Hepner Gallery yesterday about a Shepard Flag they had more out of pricing curiousity. They showed two different colors on the website , the reply was one had sold and the website had not been updated the other available for 49,950.00 I was told these are HPMs it can't be possible they sold one flag for 50k can it? I have inquired to them about other things in the past and do find them to be on the high side but I was thinking high side would be 14 to 16 not 50. Any feedback

$50 is absurd, but I know of several flag sales in the $17-$25K range, so 14 to 16 would be a little low.

FWIW, Hepner also likes to show pics of the canvases when selling their $50K paper HPMs.

$50k for a canvas makes more sense than $50k for a HPM.

I agree regarding the pricing from Hepner however they show two on thier website and when I inquired they informed me one was recently sold , I know they have deep pocket clients but 2 times the going rate seems crazy. I figured 14 to 15 was a fair market price but it also seems I valued mine on the low end of things which is good to know.

Sounds like they have a really high markup. AFAIK up to 60% is not unusual, even a 100% markup is not unheard of.

a friend inquired about some pieces they had available and was shocked at the pricing as much as I was

HPM POWer edt. of 10 $48,500 (40X60)

HPM Target Man $28,500 (40x30)

Kiss me Deadly HPM Metal (40X30) 25,500

and one flag left still for 44,950.00

All seems rather very very high
