Thoughts on buying outdoor install piece??

Post by schmidt »

I know this piece wasn't intended to be sold...but appears to have been removed for legit reasoning vs being stolen or somesuch... And does have a sig from the actual time it was produced vs back-date sig.

What are your thoughts on buying an installation piece in this state?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123

I was thinking of making an offer, as this is right down the street from me....But a part of me fells icky as this was really meant for the public and not an individual like myself.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

+1. And don't have second thoughts about it being something that was made for the public consumption. It was put up knowing it was going to be taken down.

i wouldn't buy it for the money they want unless shepard would authenticate it and/or sign it…. otherwise a piece like that would be relatively easy to fake rendering it worthless without authentication. i'd rather just make it myself than pay a ton for an unauthenticated piece. a vector image of the piece fingers is around if you can find it (thanks to STP for using it as an album cover), so right there you'd be able to print out half the piece at high res. get a piece of plywood and you are on your way to making your own obey mural.

-but its signed on the bottom right of the paster (lotus something... or flower... i cant remember the name) and its pasted in the middle of the piece! lol! the sig looks a little funky too.... kinda hard to see in the photo...

anyways... it would be nice if it were signed at the bottom of the piece (right side) in black.....

- its a nice looking piece but i would be careful on this one.... (better to just buy some pasters and make your own)

happy friday folks... ! ec

Does the "torn" edge on the Peace Fingers look too deliberate or possibly cut? The murals usually have torn edges and not cut ones like that, right? It looks cool as can be and I'd love to have it but I'm sure you'd come out cheaper making your own like the previous comments have suggested.

That sig looks completely fake to me. It looks absolutely nothing like shepard's signature.

Thanks for all the input!

And I agree Frib, after further analysis the sig does look off. That "F" is not how he writes it. And there's too many legible letters in it.

The seller also gave me the option to buy additional signed sets I can "assemble myself"...so something smells fishy and I'm going to walk from the deal - bye bye

Again, thanks for all the input!
