Occupy 99% variant

Post by skipperdoodledoo »

Just came across this print, but can't seem to find much about it in terms of the current value on EB, or any background story on why the 99% variant vs. the "regular'" occupy print. Does anyone know if this variant is more sought after? Also the 99% variant has three signatures vs. two on the original. The run size is a bit smaller at 250. Any info you can share on this print is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think the only signature that matters on the print is Shepard's. The variant has a lower run size and was only release through the gallery resulting in the higher (not by much) pricing.

I was able to score one at the Robert Berman gallery opening. Could of scored another if I was greedy. :x
The three signatures are Fairey, Sarah who is in print, and photographer. Think I payed 99$ plus tax 108$ . Cool show meeting people that night.

This was one of first three times I tried to buy , when I was still ignorant of "the drop" from any artist and I was refreshing the home page for 2+ hours at a time and wondering where all the action was happening as the guys on EB and here were "woo-hoo +1-ing it"

Clown

The non 99% edition was my first print purchase ever. Kinda like having Sarah's sig on it more than this version.

Indeed Brad , but I was too proud to ask what I was doing wrong :D , by the third week I was pulling my hair out , when I think about it now I ask myself why I was so stupid.

If it is any consolation, I tried to land Occupy and got shut out and I knew what I was doing. Yet another one I paid retail for.

I'd just like to point out OP's angry reply to Spags, who had promptly replied to their unresearched query within 8 min, yet felt reading through was more strain than they could bear. And with a resounding 'NOT'.

That said, I've never cared for this or its other variants. To me it's not a lasting image, but more of a statement in the (then) now. No one seemed to learn anything from the protests/actions, so a reminder on the wall would seem defeatist. Or maybe a way to learn from mistakes?

IMO the point of the occupy movement was valid while the movement and protests were a bit of a joke. I rather like the print and would like the variant to go with the first edition because my OCD makes me a bit of a completist.

This got me thinking to what my frame of mind was at the time. I remember not being a big fan...so I went back to the thread and looked over my old posts, and I think I still generally feel the same way now:

From 2011:

I still think this is all misplaced anger. The economy sucks and the only thing that will get it going again are corporations and entrepenuers. With no corporation there would just be socialism, and we all know that does not work out well. This is an amazing country where anyonec an move between economic classes in a lifetime or just a matter of a few years and that is due in large part to a free (relatively) market system that is dependent on our financial structure. Saying you are against corporations because the economy is bad or regulation needs reforming is like saying you're against food because you got food poisoning. You need to identify and separate what is making you sick vs. what is keeping you alive, be specfic about the issue and address it. An America without corporations would be a broke horrible socialist hell.
