Has the Giant.org just become too quiet?
Has the Giant.org just become too quiet?
Kinda wondering about the traffic on here. I don't see the old mods anymore. I rarely see some of the usual cast arguing on here at all. And well people seem to just not keep the recent threads alive.
Is the site just quiet now? Where did everyone go? I am using UAA these days too now. But miss the general camaraderie on thegiant.org.
Thoughts? Comments? Am I crazy? What happen?

Yeah, it's kinda dead. I pop in weekly to see what's going on and it's usually not much.
Re: Has the Giant.org just become too quiet?
It's not just here, I'd say most of the art forums are dying off. E-beans seems like it's not as heavily trafficked and so does the banksy board.

I check in a few times a day, but most of the time I just don't feel the need to respond to anything

It appears that the street art craze has quieted down a bit. I know gallery shows are not completely selling out and prices have softened. It could just be a symptom of a bigger lull in the market.
Glad to see you guys are still around.

I've been posting some of the upcoming prints over the last year or so. And posted a few things in older threads to drum up convo. Lately been busy sweating it out in the kitchen. Always pop in to lurk though

I think it is a clear indicator of the state of street art collecting as a whole. UAA appears to be also suffering when I hear members bemoan the old days.
Re: Has the Giant.org just become too quiet?
Everyone seems to love nostalgia. South Park did a good job with their member berries episodes.
Now there's just frustration it seems like. If you're lucky you land a $65 print. They sell out in minutes and shortly after 50 pop up on eBay for 3x face. Back in the day when you could buy more than 1 print it made sense sometimes to grab 2 and put one on eBay to cover your costs, but no one was really going over 2x face.
I think people are also afraid to post their opinions. Everyone has one, but there are a lot of people on these forums who think Shep can do no wrong. I think it's ok to critique his work. It's definitely changed over the years and regardless what you think about his imagery, messages, colorways, typography, and deformed hands ... they are still selling out every drop. Everyone likes what they like, but you bring in the politics, his politics, personal politics ... things can get heated real quick. Gotta remember it's just a discussion.
I do a lot of PM'ing and keep things off the boards. I prefer the one-on-one interactions. A lot of great members on here with a lot of great stories. It's fun to hear about how someone acquired something. Reminiscing about $35 prints that sat on the website for weeks. Regretting why I didn't buy everything I could. Kicking myself for spending $400+ on those same prints today.
I'm just waiting for the 2017 version of One Hell Of A Leader to drop (sanz ferdinand)

Just no point to it -"fighting" online when (these days especially) it can be brother against brother over the dinner table over so many issues.no1gdman wrote:...people are also afraid to post their opinions.

In terms of using the forums as a marketplace, there are more sellers than there are buyers now. 10 years ago it was the opposite. That has probably driven traffic down.
