Great work. You should look at your next step. The detail in your work is amazing. With your background, consider a more global audience. I am heading to Art Dubai today and am pretty sure your work would fit in naturally with the art scene here in the Middle East.

Title: Cami

Another newspaper collage on canvas. This one has acrylic for the background, but not on the collage itself. I just noticed that I'm sharing my work in reverse order!

Thanks for all the support. I like this sharing thing. It's one thing when my family and friends say they like, it's another when strangers do. :D

Thank you so much for all of your kind words and encouragement. I will share some more of my earlier collages in the coming days. I have many canvases in the works right now. They are very large (48x48, 36x48, and 24x36) and just take forever to complete. I am also experimenting with a very small canvas (6x6) which is making me nuts. I'll share a pic of it where it is tonight. Still have a long way to go. Thinking of doing the faces in acrylic versus collage. It's just proving to be too difficult to keep my shaking hands still enough to cut!

Nice work on the Obey stickers. Now you just need to add a hand that is missing a finger to make it authentic.

Samurai writer - what's your connection/interest in the Turkish newspaper as a medium to collage with? It certainly makes for a gorgeous, unique texture.

I lived in Istanbul for four years. I miss the place and one can only journal so much. Somewhere along the line, I decided to buy a bunch of Turkish and Ottoman newspapers and stamps and try my hand at collaging. I'm kind of still obsessed with the place. She really sunk her teeth in me.

Did I say I miss the place?

Banksy inspired public art. It lasted about 3 hours.

Reading the reactions/comments on Sarasota PD and ABC 7 Sarasota Facebook pages has been a trip!

Ataturk CHP (36 x 48 inches on canvas)

Obviously, Shepards's portrait of Ataturk was a huge inspiration. That, and the original photograph Shepard used for his work.

Still making collages. Having a ball and filling up closets with canvases, much to my wife's chagrin. This one was obviously a riff on Shepard's flag print from the May Day show.

I used a 100 year old newspaper image of the Human Liberty Bell as the focal image. The red and blue elements of the flag are made from my wife's grandfather's "First Day of Issue" stamp collection. The black areas are from the imagery on those "First Day of Issue" envelopes. The stars are hand cut from the postage marks on said envelopes. Finally, the white areas are from an old American newspaper I had laying around. Tidied it up with a bit of red, white and blue watercolor paint.

I made this as a gift for my VERY PATRIOTIC father-in-law. His politics differ from mine, but I love the guy nonetheless. He gave me the collection for my collages, and this is what I did with them.
