Jonathan Levine Closing Gallery Space

Dear Friends and Family of JLP,

It is with bittersweet feelings that I announce the closing of Jonathan LeVine Projects physical space in Jersey City this coming November. I have had an amazing experience these past 17 years of running a gallery. I am grateful to have worked with many brilliant artists and been part of an inspiring international community of creatives. I have also had the fortune of having great employees, collaborators and collectors who helped me realize my vision to its fullest. When I started curating I had a vision of what I wanted to accomplish as a gallerist and I feel I accomplished what I set out to do, which was to have underrepresented art forms brought to the foreground of the art world.

The art market has changed greatly since I started my first gallery and I no longer feel I am needed in the same capacity as I was in the past. With that being said, Jonathan LeVine Projects will not disappear but will instead evolve into an online platform that focuses on virtual exhibitions, secondary market sales and various special projects. I greatly appreciate all the support I have had from you over these years and I hope you come along for a whole new adventure as we transition into something new.

If you're in the NY/NJ area please join us this Saturday, October 20th, from 6 - 8 pm to celebrate the opening of our final show, Mirrors by Arinze Stanley, and see us off as we start this new chapter. It's not a goodbye but a see you later.

Kind regards,
Jonathan LeVine

I think that sentiment is shared by anyone who ever moved to Jersey City.

I always liked this gallery. Super easy to deal with. Got my first David Choe OG from them

JC is much different than it used to be and has a very big art scene. It wasn't the move to JC that closed the doors.

Man, this seems like kind of a big deal. I always thought the gallery was pretty huge...

The gallery was pretty big, it’s the scene that’s not so much anymore.

That's my thought too. The list JL sent around of big $$ items, very nice works by solid names, but is anybody spending that kind of money anymore? I doubt it.

They've been pretty much begging their mailing list to buy stuff since 2015 or so. It was only a matter of time. They were certainly my favorite gallery in the 00s.
