maybe it's not a reissue... could it be one of the original 1997s?

Im just going to say right now:

Im thinking we know almost nothing about the re-issues.
But I have proof that what little we thought we knew may be completely wrong.

Im still thinking about it/ I have to get ready for school in a minute.

But, yes I do have proof.

The [wiki]Chinese Soldier[/wiki] w/ the white star is NOT a reissue. It is an original. It just happens to have a white star. I have physical proof that in 1998 (i think), a catalog that was selling obey prints had the chinese soldier with the white star for sale. What probably happened is that the image that was put into the catalog was the first design for the Chinese Soldier. But shepard did not like it and did the actual full run of 100 with the red star. So the white star ones are all probably APs. (Much like [wiki]Bomber Square[/wiki])

I have one print I KNOW is a reissue. It is a [wiki]Kiss[/wiki] print from 2000 that was done on the tan paper, in only 2 color. I got this print from The Japanese Guy. I also got from him that same chinese soldier w/ white star. It was signed 2000, so I automatically thought it was a reissue.

BUT
Mose purchased, also from the Japanese guy, [wiki]The Fifth Beatles Print[/wiki]. It was signed 2000. We for a while we thought it was a print shepard had done well after the original beatles prints. BUT Jerry Waddle's fifth print was numbered of 14, and signed 97.

So what happened?

I now believe that shepard brought hundreds of prints to him for the show in tokyo, some of them old unsigned prints. Not wanting to sell the prints unsigned, shep probably just numbered them all [wiki]AP[/wiki]s, and signed them 2000, being the year it was.

Any thoughts?

This makes sense. I do know they used to keep all the prints un-signed and un-numbered in order to cut down on theft.

Hmmm... what I was saying is that his probably was signed in 97 when it was made. Where mine was made in 97 but signed in 2000.

The signature does looks different than both of my chinese soldier prints' (both 97 and 2000), so im not sure what that tells us.

So now... what do we call the Chinese Soldier Reissue? Chinese Soldier AP?

Shep had told me that he thought all reissues were done on cream paper, but I thought I had definitive proof that was not the case.

So now the only reissues I know of for fact are
Kiss (own it)
Che (seen it as a print on metal)

I think we NEED pics from the 2000 MK show.. Anyone know of a way of getting some?

I think Chinese Soldier AP. Because we are pretty sure it wasn't a reissue. Also, does anyone else have a CS w/ a white star signed? That would help.

Thanks

Okay, resurrecting this from a year ago or so. I have a Chinese Soldier AP, White Star, signed in 2000. Does everyone agree these were not reissues, but originals from 1997??? I know we confirmed that Obedience Problems' were not reissues, so how about this one like Adam states?

Oh and I just remembered this. I wish I had a photo as proof, but....when I bought my CS print from MK in 2000, I specifically recall being happy that mine arrived with Obey screened on it. At the time I had seen pictures of other CS prints where it said Giant on it, instead of Obey. I swear I'm not losing my mind, there is another variation. Maybe it was old photos from a 1026 or Six Space show....

That is signed '97, and it could be a '97, but there was no way that was signed in '97.

I don't believe that's in question, but has anyone seen one with a white star and a "real" signature from 1997? I know I haven't.

So are we saying then it's still speculation (and going off Adam's theory) that the white star prints were signed specifically for Japan in 2000, but in reality are 1997 prints? Can someone just call Shepard on the Bat Phone and ask him again?

BTW, I remember where I saw the Giant Chinese Soldier. MK had it on their site way back when....

No need for the bat phone.

There are NO reprints of this print.
They are all from 1997. Some where left over for japan, so shepard signed them when he sold them.

Shepard told me that at the time, he signed prints the year it was, and not the year he made it.

and yes, 2 versions of this print exist.
