This forum and the color of a topic

I am pretty new to this forum, so when I look at the topics posted sometimes the color of the circle next to a topic is red, others blue, some white, etc. Why is that? Best!

White means no new posts since you last viewed the topic.

Blue means new posts since you last viewed the topic.

Red means a lot of activity in one topic, in rapid-fire fashion.
