Shipping Prints

Post by bdavenport »

Why is it so hard for people to ship prints!?! I got a grail on ebay and the dude packeged it so poorly that it got dinged and damaged in transit. What the F? How hard is it to get a thicker tube and put some craft paper in it? That's how they got it right? This isn't rocket science. If there is a ton of room for the print to slide, it's going to get damaged when it stops! Duh! How hard is that to figure out!

OK Rant over, but I still have to find a decent MLK.

I am looking for that one too. I kicked myself when it came out and I didn't buy it. I was broke in those days and could maybe buy 1 or 2 a year even at $35 that was a lot. Now I can;t get my fingers on one.

If you want to make sure your print gets to you in the tube and packaging it needs I would offer to send them a tube and craft paper to use.

I actually just did this! I put a self addressed Stamped Yazoo tube inside an old Obey tube and shipped it express with paper and even instructions. I didn't think he had much tube packing experience so I wanted to ensure the print arrived proper. Still waiting to get it back but I am sure it will be fine.

Hindsight is 20/20. Wish I had, the down side is that it occured to me after it had shipped. The whoe transaction happened really quick. I paid one day it shipped next morning. Other than the shipping it was actually a great transaction

I've definitely offered to pay extra for a quality tube and craft paper just to have a print sent to me in a 1.5" tube. I don't even know how one would go about rolling a print that tightly.

Kind of odd considering Obey and virtually every printhouse sends out prints in 3-5 inch tubes. Seems foreign to me with the massive number of them piled up under my spare bed :)

On a side note, craft paper absence I have seen a couple cases of. Do not buy a print from Hard Pressed AKA Buddah Cat if you expect it to arrive protected. Clown shoes of a packaging I got from them on a print recently.
