1996 Andre the Giant vertical face set. Any info?

Post by Joaquinsd »

Hi I am new to the forum. I was hoping could get some insight on these 3 offset screen prints I have. They are signed Shepard Fairey 96' and the dimensions are 24 X 30 I purchased each here in San Diego from the Museum of Contemporary Art store back when Shepard did an installation there. This was the downtown location near the train station. I paid $12 dollars each. I had seen his work around town back in the 90's when he was first starting out. I have had them framed in my home over the last 10 years and enjoyed them. Does anyone know if they have any value?

Post a picture. That would make it a little easier.

Thanks djsp. I have two images I am rying to post but there is no option for me to download. As soon as I can figure this out I will add them. Even tried to my collection and that is not working.

Thanks for the replys. Yes it looks just like the re-issued version without the red.

The museum shop was selling them for 12 bucks at that time.

It's not really a re-issue; it never stopped selling.

The three-piece set without the red "Giant" at the bottom has been an open edition for many, many years and no doubt several thousand sets have been sold at this point (to say nothing of the several thousand that will sell in the future, as long as the open edition is continually reprinted and sold).

Your set's value today would be in the age of the signature and the value of the framing job you installed them in, but even then the set of prints, in and of itself, probably wouldn't sell for more than $100 (and likely closer to $50) because of the sheer number printed and availability of the image.
