Prints not cut to 18x24

Post by DunDun »

I wanted to start a new thread about this as IMO this is really an issue that needs to be addressed by OG. Yes there are other threads where this is discussed, but none are dedicated to this topic. Over the years of buying prints I've built up a decent amount of prints. It's really, really frustrating to try and frame a print only to find out that it's actually 18 1/4" x 24 1/4 when you want to put it on the wall. I now have six prints that I want to frame, but I cannot.

They are Neil Young

The WHOLE Mandala set

POW(er)

Anyone have any other problems with not properly cut prints?

Jaws is irritating because of the size. Giant Star 96 is also a little bit long.

Ah! Yes, was thinking about bringing this to the table the other day...I have so many I can't frame:

Power, Endless Power, Sedation pill, Shoplifters welcome, Rise Above rebel...

And 24x36 - Green Power Red & Gold doesn't fit, but the Blue does.

So yeah, any suggestions? Bring them to a professional to cut to exact size?

A larger frame and some acid free matting. It's a bummer and can get expensive, but it would be better than cutting the print in my opinion.

My suggestions is to sell them to me at cost. :D

All my Endless Power prints from the Halsey are in the bags they were shipped with because they are too big for the already tight picturesque portfolio. I spent 20 minutes at the Halsey trying to get them into the portfolio.

I agree. Only thought to have them lined up and cut as I think the paper is off, not the image. The right person *might* be able to line it up right.

I spent 30 mins on the Red and Gold...But my Blue is exactly 36x24 and fit in a standard frame.

I wrote to obey this morning about it and I already heard back!

Dear Gavin,
Thank you for your feedback. We love to hear from our customers and know the kind of problems they are dealing with.

I have emailed our printer about this and let them know that we expect an improvement. Please let us know if you notice this again.

Kind regards,
Jaspr

I still think we should keep this thread running and if the issues aren't resolved we can send them this thread as proof that it's happening to lots of people.

I thought the slightly bigger paper size was by design. As far as the printers go, how hard is it to use correctly sized paper? Jaws fit into the itoya but the end hung out a touch which was just begging to be dinged. It now lives in a foam core sammich.

Just a joke. There a Jaws Wave on eBay and there reason for damage was the print was longer and didn't fit in there portfolio.

Only kidding around.

Not by design and has nothing to do with using correctly sized paper. They don't order 18x24" paper and then print on it. Most paper comes at weird sizes and either before or after the printing is done, usually after, the paper is cut down using a very large paper cutter. Some times the crop marks or measurements are slightly off. It happens.

Exact same with me. I've noticed slight variations but jaws wave was the first that didn't even come close to fitting in an 18x24" portfolio. Mine was store flat in a flat file and now it's in a 24x36" portfolio

Ya know, you can order custom sized frames via a few online framing sites. American Frame being one of them!

75% of what I frame I buy the frame on-line and frame myself. I use this outfit>>

http://www.pictureframes.com

They are an hour or so drive from me so I can pick them up and avoid shipping and packaging costs.

ah yes, our cm frames. I can practically only find 50x70 frames in the most stores. A few times I've found 18x24in ones, but in fancy shops that charge many rubles.

So go big, don't trim. Self-mat it out.
