Re: Blu
Nice!
Soooo, can I watch this on my PS3? A quick google search on the PAL format says no.
Re: Blu
even though its region free?
I know most UK kit will play NTSC but thats more important for Brits than it is for you guys to play PAL stuff as nothing is normally exclusive on PAL...
Edit: So as its region free it should be fine on a USA dvd Player but after a quick look it seems that UK PS3's play pal & ntsc
but USA ps3's only play NTSC

Re: Blu
No you can't watch the DVD on a US PS3... BUT you can rip the DVD to your computer, convert and then stream or copy the digital file to the PS3 and play itGigantico wrote:Nice!

Most US DVD players can play PAL, Sony has disabled PAL play back on the US version of the PS3 but enabled it on international versions of the PS3. only Sony knows why this was done but I'm sure Sony studios and money were factors.

Sorry for the late response, but I completely agree with you.fribhey wrote:am i the only one who thought blu's mural at MOCA was just sh1t and p1ss a$$ ugly to begin with?
i've loved everything i've seen from blu but this mural was just horribly executed from every aspect. blu can call it censorship or whatever else he wants but it doesn't change the fact that he was COMMISSIONED to paint it by MOCA and if MOCA decides, for whatever reason, that it wasn't what they wanted then they have ever right to remove it.
Big, dumb, poor work from an artist who is much better than that.

Re: Blu
region free or not, your DVD player still has to have the ability to be able to play PAL DVDs and that's not something they could have given you an answer for. the only way to test to see if your DVD player can play PAL DVDs is to try. like i mentioned earlier, the US version of the PS3 can not play PAL discs but other PS3 versions can. Smartussi mentioned his XBox being able to play PAL but that doesn't mean your DVD player could (unless your DVD player is an xbox)ciphe wrote:so annoyed saw the artist edition and was worried it would not play in my dvd player, by the time they got back to me with "we are not sure" it was sold outsmartussi wrote:I got my DVD today, it is region free and plays perfectly on my x-box

admin note: this post was originally made by Abrogate, but something got messed up when it was moved to this thread. sorry for any confusion!
not sure if there is a better spot to post this but it here it is.
from The Nation, "Return of the Culture Wars" (Feb 14)
"As an advance promotion for the Deitch-helmed “Art in the Streets” exhibit, scheduled for April, the former Manhattan art scene fixture commissioned Italian street artist Blu to create a mural on the enormous north wall of MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary facility. For some as-yet-unknown reason, there was no planning stage for this project apart from engineering logistics—no preparatory sketches, no curatorial review and no oversight during the execution of the mural, a skewed overhead image of a grid of wooden coffins draped with flag-sized dollar bills.
Because of a shift in Blu’s schedule, Deitch was at Art Basel Miami when the mural was begun. He says he decided immediately on seeing it half-completed that it should be obliterated because of its inherent “insensitivity” to the surrounding community"

Re: Blu
I don't agree with the decision but I completely understand it--he has to walk the line as a representative of the museum. I think it speaks to the larger issue of how unfit street art is for the masses and indoor consumption. We all know that street art can be vulgar and unsavory and that fact attracted many of us to it, and part of me hopes that accomplished street artists look at the removal of Blu's work and rebel--just drop the whole charade. I don't know enough about the business, but I hope that an artist can make enough money selling prints and merchandise without pandering to the curators and directors of art museums.
