SKATEBOARD DECKS?

Post by Johnster0228 »

Any cool ones out there suitable for display?? (Artist editions, etc) I found a cool series of Day of the Dead themed decks from Chocolate that I liked, I remember seeing a set of decks that featured different guitars but I cant seem to find them anywhere...

There are quite a few artists series decks out there. The thing you have to remember is, in some circles, the images on decks are made from well known artists. I can list a lot of these artists but their names probably won't be familiar. For instances in our circles there are art decks done by Shepard Fairey, Evan Hecox, David Choe, Phil Frost, etc. I've even seen a Banksy deck come up on e-bay, most likely a fake though. Nevertheless, they're out there and these are some forums & websites to find them.

This site is not fully comprehensive but for pricing and general info on past sales, companies, artists, & skaters try: Art of Skateboarding (AOS) http://www.artofskateboarding.com/aos_main.asp

This is the Forum to check out, these guys are into decks on a more militant level than we are into prints, try: Skull & Bones (SNB) http://www.skullandbonesskateboards.com/forums/

If you guys have any questions on decks ask me on the Power to the Posse thread of this forum. My knowledge is pretty well rounded on this subject.

Supreme puts out some dope limited decks. If you are near LA , it's a few doors down from Canters. Also, there was a sweet auction you just missed, though you may have seen a thread on this previously. Supreme just did some Murakami limited decks, that were cool. There is also a skate shop in SF, on Haight that puts out some really sweet limited decks too.

I was lucky enough to score the Derek Hess deck.

I have a few:

Image

Ironically, my favorite one is the only one that is still available for purchase. It's by Brendan Monroe, who is not quite as popular as Kaws or David Choe yet. If interested, you can buy it here: http://www.munkyking.com/Shop_item.php? ... t=5&sub=0#

(they also have a garbage-like pic of the board on their site, which could be another reason for the slow sales. Could never understand why any shop like that could have poor pics)

Are the Choe decks numbered or signed? Mine was just shipped and have been trying to figure that out for some time.

I've had this Dalek deck for awhile, fully functional skateboard, just with a wacky trim job. I haven't had a chance to put it up. If anyone is interested in trading something for it, hit me up.

Evan Hecox does alot of multiboard graphic series for Chocolate, super sick stuff and I'd love to get ahold of some of the older series to cover one of my walls:

No, not signed or numbered. I am going to lug it with me next time I know he'll be somewhere and hopefully get him to sign it or splatter some of his blood on it.

There are boards from so many great artists. Many of todays artists have created boards at some time. McGee, Kinsey, Frost, Dalek, Soto just to name a few. For a great reference of deck artwork check out this book: http://www.disposablethebook.com/ They have a nice online gallery.

Below are a two photos of a few of the decks in my collection hanging at work. I have another 40 or so at home so I rotate them every few months...

Those must be some gigantic skate decks judging from the relative size to the Momentum, Mickey, and Logoface prints.

Those are some pretty nice Futuras! I like the Soto too. What are you using to hang those up?

I use packing string and picture hangers. Heavy duty fishline works well too.

Wow, this is turning out to be a really cool thread for me.

I've always looked at decks, like art prints on a functional vehicle.
