Sorry to hear about your troubles with "the man". How much are you out for the prints you ran? Maybe some of us could donate small $ amounts to help offset your loss. Nothing expected in return, just trying to help outjbudich wrote:Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words. As you all know I have been a huge fan of the Star Wars series and avid collector of all thing Star Wars for almost 30 years. I am deeply saddened by this turn of events, and the realization that I cannot offer this print that was to be my tribute to one of my favorite characters of all time. I'm sorry to say that I will not be able to offer this print. I hope to come up with something after the New Year that will wow everyone as much as this print would have. Happy Holidays!
Yeah- I have to agree. I DO NOT want anything in return, but I would help Josh out with printing costs, etc...anyway I could. He has done a lot for two charities which are very special to me, he is a sound dude for sure.notudon wrote:Sorry to hear about your troubles with "the man". My guess is because the MBW print was an original (i'm using the word loosely, nothing MBW does is original) image and composition and Josh's was just a reproduction of a copyrighted photo/movie still and also used copyrighted images in the background collage.MunkeyPants wrote:I'm just curious how MBW does a Star Wars reunion and you get a cease and desist. Either that or lucasarts was throwing MBW a bone because they know how crappy of an artist he really is.
MBW usually just drops a print without posting about it first (I think). By the time Lucas Arts would have found out about it, it mght have been sold out.MunkeyPants wrote:I'm just curious how MBW does a Star Wars reunion and you get a cease and desist. WTF?
the MBW star wars prints are also parodies and (correct me if i'm wrong) parody are considered fair use:notudon wrote:MBW usually just drops a print without posting about it first (I think). that MBW image is clearly a parody just like all the other endless star wars themed prints (Che-Bacca, Chewbarber, Wotulookin-at, shat-at, chetrooper busts and print, etc, etc.).Since copyright law prohibits the substantial use of a copyrighted work without permission of the copyright owner, and because such permission is highly unlikely when the use is to create a parody, it may be necessary for the parodist to rely on the fair-use defense to forestall any liability for copyright infringement. However, the fair-use defense if successful will only be successful when the newly created work that purports itself to be parody is a valid parody.

Featuring writing from the original “On The Road” scroll as a background, this proves to have the classic Bohemian feel! “Jack” measures 24 x18 inch, 2-color print, in cream matte paper. “Jack” is a very limited run of just 50, exclusively to The Poster District. They will be $35 + shipping ($12 US, $20 Everywhere Else). If your feeling like you want to grab one of these, you can do so by heading over to the store when the time is right. http://theposterdistrict.bigcartel.com/
