Thanks. The bad thing about it is that it makes everything else I've come up with looks like crepe.

The color scheme is partially inspired by Karl Read's (SlidingAround's) Independent Woman and Warhol's Cowboys and Indians, and maybe a little Avatar as well. I really like the respect-for-indigenous-peoples message of that movie.

Now if I only had the skills with the scalpel and the spray cans that the rest of you guys have, I could get it on paper.

Not that I know anything, but I really like your Jesus Fish work. I like the mix of pop culture and religious undertones. I feel like you could say a lot with it depending on the medium. Do you have any updates?

So, my free online art education continues. Thanks again to everyone whose offered feedback and advice.

I have finally taken another stab at putting some spraypaint on paper. I once again used cheap Krylon, but this time I used Duralar (Mylar) stencil material and what I hoped would be better spray adhesive. The results were okay, but I think I'm going to have to do some more experimenting with the adhesive and Krylon combination.

Anyhow, here is the result:
Image

I think I'll consider this a rough draft and after I work on the materials and techniques a bit more I'll probably try to make one or two more of these. I'd like to get the edges a bit cleaner, the yellow and orange a bit more opaque, and I'm sure I could do more to hide the bridges. I didn't even think to lift them away from the surface before spraying to get some spray under them.

dude, rumspring...
that RULES!

it rules even more that you just started cutting stencils recently!
you did a GREAT job!

i dont know if you have something else already figured out for the bridges or not but what i do is just spray the paint into the spray paint can top and just dip a small brush in and begin touching those bridges up!

surely there are tons of other ways of doing it though!

Thanks again to all for their advice and feedback. After looking at my Krylon version Fire with the bleeding under the stencil and distracting bridges and it has really grown on me. I like it a lot in that rough state.

I did some spot touch up by hand to cover some of the most distracting bridges in a second iteration of Fire using Montana Gold instead of Krylon. I wasn't able to get the orange and red that I wanted without major waiting (literally slow boat shipping) so I blended to get what I wanted. That turned out to be a problem when it came to touching up!

I'm going to do a bit more tinkering with some of the touch up spots to get the color to match more closely. Then I'll put a nice layer of clear over the top and call this one done. I'm a bit sick of looking at this thing and want to work on something else. I'm guessing you guys are bored with me posting picture of it, so this should be the last of this one until I do something more with it.

Here is the Montana Gold version:

I know the money subject matter thing is probably a bit trite and cliché, but I'm not exactly with-it, so it is new enough to me. I just had this idea and had to take a shot at it.

It would be a bit boring and tedious to cut the stencils for this, but not too bad. If I can get my hands on some spray paint of the proper colors do any of you think it is worth the effort?

I've been meaning to ask somewhere if anyone out there uses a Wacom pad with Photoshop for drawing (or something like it). I'd like to buy maybe a used older model to see what I can do with it, but I have no idea what to look for. Drawing/painting with a mouse kinda sucks. Any free advise on what to buy or not buy would be appreciated.

Wacom plus Photoshop here! I have a few different Wacom pads and quite a bit of knowledge about them. Feel free to message me on facebook to chat about them.

I just finished this a little while ago. At first I didn't like how dark the greens came out, but it has grown on me. I think the darker colors give is much better contrast than the digital mock up.

I did this one a while ago. I don't know why I didn't show it off here. It is based on a photo by Edward S. Curtis labelled "Zosh Clishn--Apache".

Blown away by the Apache Woman.

I especially like the "pattern" in the grey layer. I've been trying to do something similar in the piece I'm working on, and so far haven't had a lot of luck finding something that fits the subject of the piece.
