EyeWOL (Bo Brinkman)

Post by brinkmwj »

I suspect this is more of a craft than art at this point, but I'm having fun learning to stencil.

I'm going to make 3 more copies, but in the others I'm going to use the stripe pattern on the medium-orange part of the hat and boa, and skip one of the stencils (this used 11 stencils, but two were for the dots on the fur ruff on the crown, which in retrospect didn't add anything).

Definitely made some mistakes the first time around. Was rushing, so I managed to pull off some of the paint because it was wet, and my stencil adhesive was also wet.

Bo

Here are the first 2 steps of my project for this month. I wrote a bit about hackers and swatting for a textbook last month, and so now I've really got it on the brain.

Finished! Too bad I ruined 2 of the 4 copies. I'm always in a rush, and end up with paint pooling up in the stencil, which then bleeds.

The self portrait is pretty much awesome.

What is up with swatting? What ever happened to just ordering a dozen pizza's to someone's house or calling a tow truck to take their car away? BTW, in my day abusing phone systems was called "phreaking".

Thanks rumspring.

I grew up loving the old-school phreakers. I had a bunch of stories about them printed out on tractor-feed paper, downloaded from some BBS.

I hate it when people that support Wikileaks and hacktivism use swatting to try to silence their critics ... it undercuts the "information wants to be free" message they are supposedly trying to advance.

I'm working on a piece about the concept, in professional ethics, of a "firewall" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_wall).

It is taking forever, but I decided to get stickers made of the central icon. Available here: http://bobrinkman.bigcartel.com/product ... icker-pack

If you are an artist, and you have your own stickers, I'd prefer to trade my stickers for yours, rather than sell you mine. Send me a PM.

The "You are what you hate" is going to have me smiling for days. Thanks! Great work!

Edit: I've basically dis-avowed this piece, because I don't like it. You can still see the pics on Flickr, if you want.

I'm working on a 3-part series. Here is the first part.

How do you guys distribute/trade your stickers? I've sent stuff in to the Surface Area Zine (http://bit.ly/rrQC6A) and http://bomit.com, but are there other good ways?

Not really art, per se, but since Shep's manifesto was inspired by McLuhan, I thought this might be appropriate here:

The McLuhan-O-Lantern turned out pretty well, though there are some errors in the stencil I posted.

While the baby was sleeping tonight, made a new self-portrait. Been working on the stencils for weeks, but it all came together and got painted in a day.

Not exactly a serious art project, but I've been looking for a way to use my Cash For Your Warhol stickers. Did a little decorating, and then posted it.

In response to the UC Davis incident, and the use of para-military police in response to #Occupy. And also because my "swatting" pattern already looked a bit like a snowflake...

Since I found out about Cash For Your Warhol, I can't stop looking at those plastic signs on the road. All of the sudden they seem interesting.

So, another homage to Andy Warhol and CFYW before I get on with other things:

I've been out of touch so long ... we had a baby ... moved ... craziness!

Finally getting back to art, now that I'm caught up on work. Here is some newish stuff.
