What is your latest proud Obey acquisition?

Post by Ilja »

First of all.. I'm sorry that I make an EB thread copy (if there is an existing thread on the giant already, please lock this one up (couldnt find one)).
The thread is for anyone that want to cheer about their new acquisitions (please wait with the post untill you have it in hand).
I'll start

I just scored my best second hand purchase ever (I think). I've got my fingers in my long time top ISO, the Stay Up Girl. But because she's an old lady I couldnt find an anticipation thread for it, and I just had to cheer, so I created this thread.

Story time:
We have a site similar to your Craigslist one. I'll check it rarely (like every 6 month) because there is never a Shepard print on it.. and when there are, it's just idiots trying to sell 2012/2013 open edition off-sets to $300.
But I checked it today.. and coincidentally there was a guy who had put a stay up girl + an Interpol 1 on sale for $265. I got hold of him, went over at his place and ended up buying the Stay Up Girl for $150 (he would only have 133, but persuaded him to accept 150).

Seller was really cool, but unfortunately he knew nothing about prints.
He had bought the two prints 5-6 years ago from a gallery in Copenhagen. He has since had them framed in two cheap ikea frames mounted with what he described as double-sided tape (but don't know, looks a bit like some kindda glue). It was only mounted one place in the bottom of the print and then pressed directly against the non-UV plexiglass that came with the frame (.....yeah, for 5 years+). :.o
This has led to that their are remnants of the backing board on the print (I had to cut it off with a knife :?), and that it is slightly wavy from the gravity pulling in it.
I can also clearly see that the backing board has been bleached over the years (see picture), but find it difficult to see how damaged the print is from this.. is there someone who can assess it for me?

Anyways.. I am SO happy to have chopped off my top ISO from the list. And I think is a scoop for this price despite the damage (but have know idea what it would fetch on a ebay auction - who cares it's going on the wall).
Now my Molotov Man finally got his Stay Up Girl.

 YEAH !

Picture time:

The print is so deep it's almost "like" a letterpress when you see the back of it.

And iron with a t-shirt or white cloth on top too, just to be safe. It may be overdoing it, but just calling that out.

It was a promotional item complete with the following on the back:

This item is not an original piece of Shepard Fairey art. This piece is a reproduction of OBEY art by OBEY clothing. This item is expressly created for our friends at out retail stores. Under no circumstances is this item to be sold.

Was there a "Do not remove under penalty of law" tag on the back too?

That Pee Wee Herman clip is awesome. Here is the banner on the wall. With the banner on the wall it won't matter as much when I get shut out on the new letterpress print.

Nice canvas jjttdw.. Is this the one that sold on ebay a few weeks back for $63 (that was a scoop I think, should have jumped on it myself).. I have the lone wolf canvas (with no disclaimer text on the back), I think I will use it as a bedsheet thing during daytime.

Congrats Slipry.. That can looks great !

+1 on this...
The print dosn't "speak" to me (don't think I would hang it, but I do like the text on it a lot), but it's amazing because it's so old.. nice grab, congrats with the score !

Yep $63. Had the other late bidder not materialized I would have won for under $30.
