FORUM AUCTION: Mustard and Navy 1996 63/100

What: Mustard and Navy 63/100 Unframed
Opening bid: $2750
Reference for opening bid: 2011 $2500 sale on eBay
Auction Starts: 12:30PM Pacific, Today, Wednesday, March 30th
Auction Ends: 3PM Pacific, Wednesday, April 6th

Details: I’m the original owner, purchased from ObeyGiant.com. This one is a bit sentimental as it was the first Shepard print I purchased and the beginning of my collection. Of note, the dimension of this print is 18 x 25.75, similar to Black on Black, this was one of the last prints produced before he fixed the size of prints to 18 x 24. The ObeyGiant.com print archive lists them both at 18 x 24, which they are not. I’m not sure if that makes it pre-San Diego or not. I have a custom aluminum frame that matches the blue that I’m happy to include w/purchase.

Condition: Very fine to Near mint. In incredible condition for production era and age. I’ve included a few extra pictures of this one given age, rarity and cost I’m asking. I’ve had this in a portfolio or framed for last 25 years. Lays flat w/square corners. No pin holes or tears. Some light bends below numbers in bottom left and an isolated surface level tape pull on back that I don't know history of (I jacked up contrast in photo to make visible). Few little production things standard from era like little hitch in top left corner from paper cut/production. I can only imagine this is one of only several that still exist in this quality.

Shipping: Will ship international from Seattle within 24 hours of auction ending. Buyer responsible for shipping charges. Default US shipping costs are $20.00. International shipping costs, expedited shipping and insurance are the responsibility of the Buyer.

Payment: Venmo unless otherwise agreed upon. BUYER must pay within 12 hours. OTHERWISE, seller has the right to take the offer of whoever was under you.

HOW IT WORKS:
Bidding: To bid, reply to the thread with the amount of your bid (starting with the opening price), additional bids must raise by a $25 minimum bid raising increment.

Winning: Winner is the bidder holding the highest bid at time of auction close.

No Snipe rule: If a bid is made within the last 9 minutes and 59 seconds of the auction’s scheduled closing time, Popcorn Bidding kicks in. Popcorn or dynamic bidding automatically extends the scheduled closing time for an auction item by 10 minutes after a bid is placed. Each subsequent bid resets the clock to allow bids to be made for another 10 minutes. Once there has been no bidding activity for 10 minutes, the bidding is considered completed and no further bidding is accepted. The auction for the item is then closed and the person who placed the highest bid wins the item. Sale is final: NO REFUNDS, NO RETURNS.

Wow. I feel like I'm looking at a history piece in addition to it being a piece of art. So cool.

I’ve seen that hitch before. Do you think that happened on site with shep, or from whoever he got the paper from?

SD, My assumption is that it is an anomaly from a bulk production cut from the paper supplier. Had similar hitch on corner of Big Brother Profile.

Some background from Shep on this specific design...

"This poster image was borrowed from a design by Aleksandr Rodchenko, one of the primary Soviet constructivist artists right after the revolution of 1917. He developed the style of arrows and exclamation points that are characteristic of Soviet propaganda, and I really liked the idea of making something seem more important than it really is through the use of those devices. Rodchenko’s style is really influential, not just on my work but on much of the propaganda-style artwork created over the past 80 years." - Shepard Fairey "Supply and Demand" (page 90)

Great print. I've only seen a couple move through the years.
