I've been hesitant to DIY float stuff with Japanese hinges... but I should just get over my fears and try them on some strap pieces, leave it floated for a month, then try to remove it, to see what the area looks like. The idea of something being "Water Reversible" freaks me out when dealing with things attached to artwork. I currently use mylar corners to float stuff, they're visible, but it's worth it for me, knowing that I can easily take the piece out of the frame without any issues... but it would be nice to be comfortable floating items without having anything visible at the corners.

Now I realize what people meant about these being difficult to photograph! Apparently, black suede in a pain to frame with (especially when using museum glass) as every piece of lint or gold leaf shows. My framers did an awesome job-fully archival: mounted with photo corners, one gold angled mat, one red suede accent mat, and a black suede mat.
