Can any of you stencil heads explain something for me?

So I've got the 3 layer stencil process down via Gimp by creating a layer mask then going to 'multiply' and deleting the mask. But I'm looking to do 4-5 layer stencils next and I'm having difficulty trying to figure that one out, I'm sure it's something super easy that I'm missing. Can anybody here forward me to a link or explain how to do this in Gimp? Thank you VERY VERY much in advance for any help you're able to provide.
