Wow, just when I thought I can have a breather this week. I like it more than the white Dark Wave. Hopefully its a walk in the park during checkout.

I like the irony. Using an image of the wave to help those whose lives have been destroyed by a wave.

You call it irony, I call it symbolism.

I found this to be interesting about another popular wave depiction in Japanese art:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_ ... f_Kanagawa

"...The violent Yang of nature is overcome by the yin of the confidence of these experienced fishermen. Strangely, despite a storm, the sun shines high."

I have gotten out of the habit of making mock ups for framing because I haven't been in a position to frame much of anything and hang it, but I took a quick shot at the three most basic options for this print.

Sorry if you can't see them and sorry if the compression makes them look a little lame. I'll have them hosted on FaceBook. I put them in the Mock Up thread as well maybe with some of the other prints mentioned as possible pairings at some point.

How is it a use of symbolism?

The sun, the wave... Both symbolize the event and location

I don't find irony in the use of a wave image to help raise money for victims of a tsunami.

I like this much better than the original image. I also notice it looks like there is a pattern in the sun. Anyone else see what it is?

It's kinda morbid. The image is great but the story behind it weirds me out if im being honest. There's no way I couldn't look at that image and not think Japan tsunami. I respect the gesture though!

The pattern on the sun is the pattern from the sky overlaid on the sun

OK, see it now across the sky. It's in the original Dark Wave image also.

Halfway agree. I really like this print. It's beautiful, and I find it much more captivating that original Dark Wave. And the effort by Shep to help is golden. Obviously, he is a man of enormous compassion, as he proves time and time again.

However, if I were Japanese (I am not though my wife is) I would find it disturbing. The wave image may be a painful one for some, given the events.

nice gesture but the 'dark wave' is not an uplifting image to the people of Japan considering there were many lives taken by a dark wave. pretty morbid imo. pass.

i also thought it was a weird image choice - it's like using a storm cloud or a broken levee for Katrina
never the less a great cause and I hope it sells out
it does look nice

i don't think that's ironic either... typical (or predictable) but not ironic, unless of course everyone is using Alanis Morissette's definition of irony

I have to agree, disturbing image to look at. I was a bit shocked when I saw this.

Having this on my wall would be like having to watch a video loop of the first waves hitting Japan. The image is even more confused in that's it's also the Dark Wave oil spill....so we're getting both polluted water and a reference to the 30ft tsunami wave. If Shepard couldn't create something new for a benefit print at least a more neutral print would have been more appropriate like one of the Japanese patterns.

But hopefully it will sell out and raise some money for whatever organization he chooses.

Wish it was flipped horizontally just to make it a little more different from the original, but I still think it is an awesome print.

This one buries both original versions and for a most deserving cause. It has a Sunsets and Evolve Devolve feel with the red and gold (?) highlights. I actually have a decent shot at this one....hopefully. :?
