there will be blood. Awesome. Daniel Day Lewis. Mind boggling. Was this movie based on a true story or no?

Very good film, adapted from the Upton Sinclair novel Oil! Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors of our time.

ya i heard it was adapted from the novel, so no truth to the novel? And yes Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the best actor of the last twenty years. who is better?

I enjoyed it, but not as much as Old Country. They both reminded my of the spaghetti westerns, which tended to be very nihilistic.

Well the film was pretty loosely based on the novel, but the Teapot Dome scandal is real, some good information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teapot_Dome_Scandal" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Dead on.

And at our house, these two will get to share shelf space with Apocalypse Now and Dr. Strangelove. Who knew Hollywood could still make decent movies?

i agree, but I just saw Street Kings (Keanu Reeves) and it was pretty darn good. Nothing original, but fun.

old country was real good and crazy violent.
twbb was a little more artistic, less dialogue - but its worth watching for the milkshake scene and the false prophet beatdown.

I watched about 40 minutes of it and think it was slow and boring up to that point. I assume it gets better in the second half (according to how everyone seems to hype this thing up) but 'til now I can't bring myself to finish watching it. Just like Juno I assume it's incredibly overrated.

Juno is good. Overrated, maybe, but still quite good.

Both equally awesome movies, might have liked no country a tiny bit better.

I liked Matrix starring Canoe, & Rivers Edge.

re there will be blood:

as a friend of mine said, an amazing movie, considering that it doesn't have a plot.

exactly! I was just talkin to a friend about that, it was overhyped but it was still a great movie. Ellen Page was great in it, the only let down was Jennifer Garner's character (kinda depressing) :P

of course it has a plot, but not in any conventional sense.

I really like both 'No Country' and 'There Will Be Blood' a lot ... best movies of the year. The only reason I give 'No Country' the advantage is because 'There Will Be Blood' wouldn't be 1/10 as good with another actor ... which is probably why it only got the best actor Oscar and not best picture.

EDIT NOTE: 'No Country' might be the most faithful adaptation I've seen ... there are large parts of the movie that follow the book word for word. It almost makes the book boring if you didn't read it beforehand.
